Updates From The OBTC!

Dear Ocean Beach Town Council Members and Supporters,

As we turn the corner toward the end of 2021, OB is buzzing with anticipation about the coming months. Your volunteer Board of Directors is hard at work preparing for OB’s legendary holiday initiatives and events including the famous OB Tree, Holiday Parade, Auction, and Food & Toy Drive. We’re also excited for our refreshed Restaurant Walk, now called the Taste of Ocean Beach, which is just around the corner on November 9th.Earlier this month at the Pier Pancake Breakfast, we celebrated our return to in-person events on the lawn at Veteran’s plaza. Nothing can stop OBceans from coming together as a community and enjoying a beautiful day in our little slice of paradise. We’ve got a lot to share with you in this email! While we’re not quite ready to send out details on our November and December events, we wanted to make sure you saved the dates in your calendars now.As always, reach out to us by replying to this email (or any time by emailing [email protected]), message us on Facebook or Instagram, or say hi if you see us around OB.

Pier Pancake Breakfast 2021

Our first real ‘in person’ event back, after over 18 months, the Pier Pancake Breakfast on October 2nd at Veteran’s Plaza was an epic success. Our team of volunteers served hundred of OBceans a delicious breakfast, raised thousands of dollars to support OBTC Holiday Events and Initiatives, and brought the community together.

Community events like the Pancake Breakfast are only possible with the support of community partners - on behalf of OB, THANK YOU to all of the volunteers, organizations, and businesses who helped make this great day happen.

Get trained to save a life

At our September public meeting, representatives from SAY San Diego shared about trends associated with alcohol and other drug use in San Diego. Part of the presentation focused on the deadly affects of fentanyl.

As a follow up to this presentation, we scheduled a training through the National Alliance of Mental Illness, San Diego Chapter, to equip OBceans with the ability to identify an individual who is suffering from the effects of fentanyl and how to administer the drug Narcan (naloxone), which could save their life. This training will take place on October 25th at 5:30pm on Zoom and is open to all community members. Individuals who complete the training will be eligible to receive a kit including Narcan. Information on how to receive your kit will be distributed following the training.

Craft fairs are back

Come on down to Veteran’s Plaza on select Saturdays between now and the end of the year to peruse an assortment of artisan crafts from local vendors. Join our Resource Development Committee

We are in search of talented and motivated grant searchers and writers to join our resource development efforts. You would work closely with our Chair of Resource Development, Mara Cunningham, and be part of an awesome team looking to create more opportunities and events for our beautiful community. All work would be voluntary with plenty of networking and high fives, no experience necessary but a strong desire to conduct funding research and aid the application process is a must. This would be a great opportunity for anyone looking to get more involved in the community and gain valuable experience in grant writing and fundraising. Contact Mara directly at [email protected].
